What are scientific and technical knowledges? What are the social and cultural conditions of their production and the processes through which they are realized? This course is designed as a focused survey of the relationship between science and society. We will not just ask how social factors influence science and technology; we will also question why we take the division between scientific and social worlds for granted. Starting our discussion with the body - the very basis of our existence, we explore in this course a variety of themes, e.g., progress, power and war that underpin science and technology studies. Those who intend to pursue honors are strongly encouraged to take this course, as we will also focus on research perspectives in STS.
